Melbourne's Forté building in Victoria Harbour has won the 2013 Australian Timber Design Award.

Forté is the tallest timber apartment building in the world - at 32.17 metres tall. By using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), Forté, reduces CO2 equivalent emissions by more than 1,400 tonnes when compared to concrete and steel - the equivalent of removing 345 cars from the roads.

It is hoped that Forté will serve as a demonstration to the Australian market of how this revolutionary technology permits the rapid construction of strong, lightweight buildings that may be both tall and wide.

Forté also won the award categories - ‘the Southern Region', ‘Multi Residential'.
