Secret Carbon Storage

At the Melbourne MBA Homeshow last month Planet Ark staff were on hand to speak with renovators and keen home DIYers.  When asked to name one thing in their home made from wood the top three answers were:

  • Floorboards
  • Furniture
  • Window frames

Very few respondents identified their house's frame. Unlike the obvious items like floorboards and furniture, the house frame is out of sight and out of mind. But even though we can't see it, it's secretly sequestering carbon away for as long as the house stands. So not only is it helping to keep these homes upright, the frame is helping to keep carbon out of the atmosphere.

Encouragingly, half of respondents said they would choose certified wood when building or renovating.  This is great news for retailers, who are prepared to go the extra mile and stock certified products.

Planet Ark will be at Grand Designs Live in Sydney from 5-7 October. Come and talk to us to learn more about the benefits of using certified wood as a building material and meet Make It Wood's favourite superhero Charlie Carbon Catcher.
